The 14th General Conference of EASTICA & Seminar Successfully Held in Tokyo



National Archives of Japan and the East Asian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EASTICA) jointly hosted its 14th General Conference and Seminar at the Hotel Metropolitan Edmont Tokyo, from November 25 to 27, 2019. There were 167 participants in total: 85 from abroad (China, Korea, Mongolia, France, Thailand and the US), and 82 from Japan.


The theme of the conference was "Archives Today and Tomorrow: Prospering as a Diversity of Records Dramatically Increase". The program of the conference was as below;

It was the fifth Japan-hosted EASTICA General Conference.
At the Opening Ceremony, Mr.BEPPU Atsuhiko, Vice Minister for Policy Coordination of the Cabinet Office was invited to give a speech.
EASTICA made the resolution at the General Conference, and the outline of the resolution was as follows;


1) EASTICA has elected the new Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Executive Board members for a 4-year term, from 2019 to 2023.
Chair: Mr. Wang Shao Zhong (National Archives Administration of China)
Vice-Chair: Dr. Soyeon LEE (National Archives of Korea)
Treasurer: Dr. Choi Jaehee (Republic of Korea)
Board Member: Mr. KATOH Takeo (National Archives of Japan)
Board Member: Ms. Lau Fong (Archives of Macao)
Board Member: Mr. Enkhbaatar Samdan (General Authority for Archives of Mongolia)
Board member: Ms. Luk Yuk-shan (Government Records Service of Hong Kong)


2) The 32nd Executive Board meeting and seminar will be held in Seoul, Korea in 2020.


3) The following institutions were accepted as its new Category C members:

  • Department of Information Studies, Renmin University (China)
  • Fujian Provincial Archives (China)

4) EASTICA awarded an honorary membership to Mr. Simon Chu to recognize his contribution to the development of professionalism in East Asian region and great devotion to EASTICA for 22 years.


5) EASTICA has resolved to continue working with the University of Hong Kong in arranging the Postgraduate Certificate Program in Archival Studies (PCAS) and the Postgraduate Diploma program in Archival Studies (PDAS).
