The 12th General Conference of EASTICA & Seminar successfully held in Fukuoka


National Archives of Japan and the East Asian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EASTICA) jointly hosted its 12th General Conference and Seminar at the Hotel Okura Fukuoka in Fukuoka City, from October 13 to 16, 2015. There were 125 participants in total: 66 from abroad (China, Korea, Mongolia, the US and the UK), and 59 from Japan.

It was the first Japan-hosted EASTICA General Conference held outside of Tokyo, and Mr. Hiroshi Ogawa, the Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture was invited to give a speech at the Opening Ceremony. Also, a message from the Minister of the State for Government, Mr. Taro Kono, was read by Councillor of the Cabinet Secretariat, Mr. Hitoshi Fukui.

Under the theme of "Archives in the Digital Era: Revisited," a program was offered as below and active discussions were held in each session.

At the General Conference, new Executive Board members for the term 2015-2019 were elected as follows:
Chair: Takeo KATOH, National Archives of Japan
Vice-chair: LI Minghua, State Archives Administration of China
Treasurer: CHOI Jae Hee (Korea)
Secretary: Simon F.K. CHU (Hong Kong)
Board Member: PARK Donghoon, National Archives of Korea
SARUUL Ishjamts, General Archival Authority of Mongolia
LAU Fong, Director, Historical Archives of Macao
2 Representatives from Category B Members (Korea and Macao)

It was decided that the next EASTICA Executive Board meeting and Seminar would be held in Seoul, Korea in September 2016 as part of a special session of the Seoul ICA Congress.

In addition to the above, the General Conference approved new category C members (The Gakushuin School Corporation, Hebei Provincial Archives, Guizhou Provincial Archives, Swire HK Archives Service) and continuation of the joint organization of the postgraduate certificate program in archival studies with the University of Hong Kong.
