Hours

  • 9:15AM - 5:00PM (Last admission and administrative applications in order to read our holdings on the same day of the visit are 30 minutes prior to closing.)

Closing

1) Tokyo Main Office

  • Sundays and Mondays
  • National holidays as prescribed by law
  • Year-end and New Year holidays (December 28 - January 4)

2) Tsukuba Annex

  • Saturdays and Sundays
  • National holidays as prescribed by law
  • Year-end and New Year holidays (December 28 - January 4)

How to Request to Use Our Holdings

  • To use our holdings (which are legally defined as designated historical public records and archives, etc.) fill in and submit the Request Form (a) directly at the circulation desk in our reading room, (b) by mail or (c) by fax. They may be used in the following ways:

1) Reading the Holdings

  • Our reading room is available at the Tokyo Main Office.
  • Originals of our holdings can only be viewed in the reading room.
  • Visitors are requested to fill in the Registration Form at the front desks.
  • Photography is permitted in the reading room; but the use of flashes, tripods, monopods and other photographic devices is strictly prohibited.

2) Reproduction of the Holdings

  • Reproduction of our holdings is available for a fee in forms of scanned data (CD-R/DVD-R discs or printouts), etc.
  • To request reproduction, specify where to reproduce and fill in and submit the Request Form to the circulation desks. Reproduced materials are mailed for a fee.

Digital Archive

  • Digital Archive is our distinctive online service through which you can search the catalog of our holdings and view their images on-site and off-site.
  • Information of the catalog and the images are subject to fees when printed out on-site, unless they are printed out on the designated Request Form.

Exhibition

  • The Tokyo Main Office runs special exhibitions in spring and autumn, and the permanent exhibition for the rest of a year. The Tsukuba Annex also runs a special exhibition in summer in parallel with the permanent one. All exhibitions are admission free.

Loan of Materials

  • When other institutions request the loan of the holdings for their exhibitions or other events with social objectives such as academic research or social education, NAJ lend materials subject to its loan conditions.
