Mamiya Rinzo Kitaezoto Kenbun Kankei Kiroku

PICTURE : Mamiya Rinzo Kitaezoto Kenbun Kankei Kiroku

Records of exploration of the Sakhalin and "Todatsu" (eastern Siberia) regions in 1808-09 (the Bunka year 5, 6) by Mamiya Rinzo, which were presented to the Tokugawa Shogunate. They consist of three parts: "Kitaezoto Chizu" (island maps), "Todatsu Chiho Kiko" (an account of travels in eastern Siberia), and "Hokui Bunkai Yowa" (an account of travels in Sakhalin). The unusual scenery and folkways of these northern regions are introduced with colored illustrations. The exploration proved that Sakhalin was actually an island.
