The 10th General Conference of EASTICA & Seminar successfully held in Tokyo



  • The National Archives of Japan and the East Asian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EASTICA) jointly hosted its 10th General Conference and a seminar at the Hotel Grand Arc Hanzomon (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) from November 15 to 18, 2011.
  • There were 152 participants in total: 72 from abroad (China, Korea, Mongolia, Australia and Singapore), and 80 from Japan.
  • Under the theme of “Archives Today: Legislation, Access, and Preservation in the Digital Age,” the following program was offered and active discussions were held in each session.

  • At the General Conference, new Executive Board members for the term 2011-2015 were elected as follows:
      Chair: Gwigeun Song, President, National Archives of Korea
      Vice-chair: Dongquan Yang, Director-General, State Archives Administration of China
      Treasurer: Sangmin Lee (Korea)
      Secretary: Simon F.K. Chu (Hong Kong)
      Board Member: Masaya Takayama, President, National Archives of Japan
                                 Ulziibaatar Demberel, Director-General, National Archives of Mongolia
                                 Fong Lau, Director, Historical Archives of Macao
  • It was decided that the next EASTICA Executive Board meeting and Seminar would be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in late July, 2012, and the 11th General Conference and Seminar, in China in 2013.
  • Besides, the General Conference approved the Society of Korean Records Managers and Archivists and the Dalian City Archives as new members, joint organization of the postgraduate certificate program in archival studies with the University of Hong Kong in 2012, and full support to Korea in its hosting the ICA Congress 2016.

  • Texts of the keynote speeches and the Country/Regional Reports will be published in The Archives, 46 (to be published in February 2012).
