President of the National Archives and Records of Oman Visited to the National Archives of Japan from 21st to 22nd October, 2008



A suite of Dr. Al-Dhwayani, President of the National Archives and Records of Oman and Mr. Al-Muslahi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Japan visited the National Archives of Japan for two days from Tuesday 21st to Wednesday 22nd October, 2008. This visit was realized as a result of previous bilateral exchanges between Oman and Japan; His Highness Haitham, Minister of Heritage and Culture of the Sultanate of Oman visited our Archives in April 2008 and Ms. Yoko Kamikawa, former Minister of Public Records Management and National Archives visited Oman in May 2008.

The party came to Japan as part of an investigation relating to an establishment of the new National Archives and Records in Oman. They showed special interests to digitization technologies, introduction of database, and training of conservators. They asked questions earnestly on digital archives on the first day. On the second day Dr. Al-Dhwayani delivered a presentation on the process of the enactment of the Omani national archives law and future issues, and exchanged opinions with our staff members. The party also visited to Japan Center for Asian Historical Records, The Diplomatic Record Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Archives and Mausolea Department of the Imperial Household, and an exhibition center of a private company related to digital archives.
