The members also discussed on the issue of the rebuilding of revenue structure, establishment of strategic and business plan of ICA, and the means of selecting the Secretary-General designate, as well as the state of preparation of the International Congress on Archives 2008 to be held in Malaysia.

  • - After the Executive Board Meeting, the National Archives of Japan organized the Special Seminar, "Archives in the World Today" on May the 25th Thursday from 13.30 pm to 16.45 pm at the Japan Foundation Conference Hall in Minato-ku, Tokyo, supported by the Japan Foundation. The seminar was started by Dr. Mikoletzky, the President of ICA. He made an introduction of the history and activities of ICA, which was followed by the thirty-minute lectures by the following four members from the Executive Board:

    Didier Grange ICA Vice-President
Archiviste of Archives de la Ville de Geneve
"Genesis and Evolution of a Young Institution: The Geneva City Archives"

Kelebogile P. Kgabi President of ICA Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Branch
Director of Botswana National Archives and Records Service

  • - Their lectures provided valuable overviews of municipal archives in Europe, and the national archival system in Africa and the Pacific region, which have seldom been introduced in Japan. Mr. Albada was the last speaker whose lecture reconsidered the term "Archives", and encouraged the development of archivistsf own awareness of their roll in the electronic information society. There were about 120 people in the audience, and some had active discussions with the speakers. The detailed contents of the Special Seminar will be reported in the next issue of our information journal, Archives (vol. 24).

  • - After the Special Seminar, a reception took place in a hotel in Tokyo, where 100 people, including members of the Annual Meeting of Directors of Prefectural Archives and Ordinance-designated City Archives, deepened exchange with archivists from all over the world.
